Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site

Stretching 80 miles (120 km) from the Solway Coast in Cumbria to Wallsend near Newcastle Upon Tyne, Hadrian’s Wall is quite impressive in itself. The UNESCO World Heritage Site totals to 110 miles, continuing at both sides from Arbeia in South Shields to Ravenglass in Cumbria.

Corbridge Roman Town

At Corbridge Roman Town, an audio guide brings the story of the town to life and the modern museum has a fascinating array of finds. Writing tablets found at Vindolanda show that troops from Vindolanda were stationed here at times, or came here on leave.  Walk along the main street of this Roman garrison town, flanked by the remains of granaries, a fountain house, markets, workshops and temples. Corbridge was the most northerly town in the Roman Empire and one of only two on Hadrian’s Wall, the other being at Carlisle.

Hexham Old Gaol

Step into the oldest purpose-built prison in England. Descend into the dungeon, peer into the gloom and imagine confinement in the dark awaiting trial in the nearby Moothall. Meet the gaoler to learn about the treatment of criminals then put yourself in the prisoners’ shoes and try the stocks for size – if you dare!

Treasure Trails

Every Trail is self-guided. There are no restrictions (aside from daylight) as to when you can do them. We are not there to meet you, so you can do them whenever you like, with whoever you like.  Each Trail is an A5 booklet of 8 pages. We have three themes; Murder Mystery, Treasure Hunt and Spy Mission. A Trail will be one of those three themes – it is random as to which – the Trail Writer will have decided this!

The Bowes Museum

The Bowes Museum is a hidden treasure, a jewel in the heart of beautiful Teesdale. The magnificent building stands proud in the historic market town of Barnard Castle housing internationally significant collections of fine and decorative arts.  Purpose built in the 19th century by John and Joséphine Bowes, the Museum has a wonderful story to tell.

BECKs Training

BECKs Training is a provider of high quality outdoor adventure and team events at venues across the North of England. We use physically and mentally challenging activities as a vehicle for personal and team development. However, we do adjust our activities to the age range and physical ability of each group.
